The Basic Skills Committee at Rio Hondo College strives to create and maintain a strong focus, throughout the institution, on the core fundamentals of learning: reading, writing, math, ESL, learning strategies.

Its primary objectives are to achieve high levels of retention and success among basic skills students and to prepare this population to succeed throughout more advanced courses of study.

Toward this end, the Committee fosters professional development, reviews data, and implements various best practice learning support and student support initiatives. Furthermore, the Basic Skills Committee continues to enhance existing campus projects and programs for the advancement of students and the campus community.
