Emergency COVID -19 Addendum for DE Delivery of a Course Step 1 of 8 - Introduction 12% This form is intended to allow teaching a course using a distance education (DE) model of instruction. Only one form needs to be filled out per course. The submitting faculty member should indicate ‘yes’ or ’no' where appropriate, and also sign the last page. The submitting faculty member should read the entire document to ensure their understanding of the commitment being made by offering this course through a DE model. This form should be provided to each faculty member teaching an online section of a course. This form will allow for the temporary ability to offer this course through DE. If this course is intended to be offered through DE beyond 2020, the course must go through the regular process of DE course approval. Please note there are regulations and requirements that must still be met regardless of the state of public health. These regulations and requirements specifically include but are not limited to making all content disabled-accessible and fulfilling accreditation standards. What is the intent in offering the course by distance education?Rio Hondo College will continue to offer instruction to students while following the social distancing guidelines set forth by federal, state, and local governments. California Title 5 section 55204(a) “Any portion of a course conducted through distance education includes regular effective contact between instructor and students, and among students, either synchronously or asynchronously, through group or individual meetings, orientation and review sessions, supplemental seminar or study sessions, field trips, library workshops, telephone contact, voice mail, e-mail, or other activities. Regular effective contact is an academic and professional matter pursuant to sections 53200 et seq.”Indicate the type and number of instructor-student contacts per semester and how this will be effective.The instructor will contact students regularly to ensure students understand and are completing their assignments, and receiving substantive feedback. The number of student-instructor contacts per term will follow a regular pattern but may increase depending upon each student’s needs—similar to the interaction that occurs in a face to face class. The instructor may opt to conduct synchronous meetings with students during the instructor’s regular office hours as well as via e-mail, telephone, or other means of communication. Explain how regular effective contact among students will be facilitated.Contact with students may take place via a variety of methods such as the <i>Canvas</i> "Collaborations” section, where students can set up study groups, share videos, and converse generally about class matters. Students may also contact each other using video conferencing software such as <i>ConferZoom</i> or other social media platforms.
