Parent of Minor Student Advisory
Rio Hondo College provides the opportunity for qualified K-12 students to enroll in college courses for advanced level study in instructional areas not available at their current school. The school and the college determine who may enroll based on their judgment of the applicant's eligibility. The college has the right and responsibility to restrict enrollment for reasons of health and safety, appropriateness of the course, preparedness of the student, availability, registration priority, and college policy. Please review the program policies below to make this a successful experience. The following policies have been established to assist students with a successful experience at Rio Hondo College:
"...The student shall also be required to attend school for the minimum school day..." at their school as required by law. (Title V, Sections 48800-48802)
In order to attend Rio Hondo College, the student must have permission of their school principal and their parent/guardian. K-8 students also need permission of the College Division Dean/Director.
Students wishing to enroll in an academic course must complete the matriculation process prior to the student's registration.
Students will be starting an academic transcript. Be aware of all significant deadline dates and all academic policies that are printed in the College Catalog and Schedule of Classes. Students are responsible for all rules and regulations at the College and are expected to read and understand all college procedures and policies in the current schedule of classes and the College Catalog. Please realize that the grades the student receives may affect future entrance to another college or university, scholarships, financial aid awards, etc.
All students attending courses are presumed to be mature and able to be on campus "on their own." Students will be attending classes with adults and may be involved in mature discussions in the classroom, as well as be required to read classroom texts and material containing adult themes and/or content.
Security also should be of concern to parents, especially for students attending classes after dark. Faculty cannot be expected to wait with students until their rides arrive. At times, classes may be dismissed early. Pay telephones are available, but may not be in close proximity to the student's classroom. Bathroom facilities are not monitored by the college staff.
Parents who wish to attend a class with their child must also enroll in the class and pay all enrollment fees.
According to Section 49061 of the Education Code, parents of community college students do not have a right to access children's student records. Under age students are no exception. A student's college records will be released to parents only with written consent of the student.
Transcripts will be issued only with written request of the student.
I have read and understand the above information
