JoAnna Downey has a B.A. from Smith College and an MFA in dramatic writing from Carnegie Mellon University. Ms. Downey has had plays produced in Los Angeles, New York, Florida, and Boston, and taught writing at UC Irvine, Riverside Community College, Carnegie Mellon, and South Coast Repertory Theatre, where she also worked in the literary department. She was a staff writer for ABC Daytime and is the author of three books published by Avalon Travel Publishing. Other writing includes articles for the Boston Globe, the Beacon Hill Times, Self Magazine and Dog Fancy. She founded her own business skills company, Clearly Write, developing online training, business writing and presentation skills seminars for clients as diverse as Mitsubishi Motors, National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), Young and Rubicam, and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Prior to coming to Rio Hondo, Ms. Downey was assistant vice president in charge of career and student services at Corinthian Colleges, Inc.
