Reading Department
Steve Koelle knows first hand what it is to be a Rio Hondo College student. He attended the college during the early 1970's after graduating from Whittier High School. Says Steve, "If it weren't for Rio Hondo, I know I wouldn't have become a teacher, much less returning to the college to help another generation of students. I learned so much here because of the dedication and expertise of the faculty at the college. My professors here taught me what it really meant to be a successful college student.
Steve Koelle taught at the high school level in Whittier, Santa Ana, and Montebello for 23 years and part-time at Rio Hondo College for 19 years before becoming a full-time member of the Reading Department at Rio Hondo in 1999.
During his leisure time, Steve likes to, of course, read. His favorite books are Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. He also likes to play golf and spend time with close friends. Steve is currently taking cooking courses and learning about distance education.
