Basic
Writing Modes-4
SUPPORTING A GENERALIZATION WITH EXAMPLES.
THINKING STEPS
1.
Choose one (1) important effect school has had on you-good, bad or mixed.
2.
Write a sentence stating that effect: For example, “For me the
worst part of school is that the teachers have turned me off by
being more interested in discipline than in teaching..”
3.
Choose two or three stories (examples) of things that happened to
you in school that show the truth of your main
idea.
4. Write an organizing sentence to come
right after your main idea
that tells the reader what to expect: For
example, “I remember
especially three fights with my teachers that
showed me that
school was for them, not me.”
