Miriam Aguilar
Business Advisor/Coordinator

Miriam is the
Business Coordinator, works directly with the Director on carrying
through the goals and objectives of the SBDC program. Prior to
joining this center she had over 5 years of experience working with
several other SBDC centers conducting workshops and individual
counseling (Spanish/English) on needs and requirements for business
start-up and expansion. She is also a Bilingual Business
Advisor; assist clients with business plan development and loan
documentation requirements. Miriam has over 10
years of experience working with the Latino Business Community. She
has co-authored and translated a Business Start-Up Guide and
developed curriculum for several Spanish Business Courses/Workshops.
Nancy Gutierrez
Administrative Support

Nancy joined the SBDC team in November 2000 and works as a typist
clerk II performing a variety of tasks such as answering phones,
assisting the administrative assistant, and pleasantly greeting
clients the three days a week she is in the office. Nancy is a
Junior at Cal Poly Pomona where she is preparing to become an
elementary school teacher.
Business Advisors
Jerry Boykin
Jerry is a retired underwriter for Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of
America. He shares his 28 years of banking experiences working with
clients on preparing and packaging loans for bank presentations.
Jerry is the owner of Book Keeping Express, a 10 year old payroll
bookkeeping and financial consulting business in San Dimas, CA.
Benjamin Martin
Benjamin
Martin, Attorney at Law, works for the Commerce SBDC and is also in
private practice as a solo practitioner. His practice caters to the
small business, their owners and managers. Focusing on Business
law, contracts, incorporation and civil litigation, he also advises
on Estate planning and Family Law matters as they impact business
client’s commercial matters.
As a
Business Advisor for three SBDC’s he has counseled hundreds of small
businesses in Los Angeles County, from the Foothills to the South
Bay. He counsels small enterprises and new ventures on the various
legal issues they confront, as well as business plans and management
skills. His services to the small business clients of the Commerce
SBDC are available in the form of one on one counseling sessions as
well as seminars and workshops.
He is a
graduate of Southwestern University School of Law where he earned
the Jurist Doctor Degree. His undergraduate education was at
California State University at Los Angeles where he earned his
Bachelor of Science Degree, in Business Administration.
Sharon Peterson
Sharon has over 13 years of experience in marketing and sales in
Fortune 500 and privately owned companies. She is the President of
her own marketing firm, which include clients such as C.M. Paula
Company and The R.L. Williams Communications Group. Prior to
starting her own company, Sharon served as the Marketing Manager for
Avery Dennison in E-Business. She also worked in marketing roles for
PepsiCo, R.J. Reynolds and General Motors/Hughes. Sharon holds a BS
in Architectural Engineering from North Carolina A&T State
University and a MS Degree in Industrial Administration from
Carnegie Mellon University.
