Student Success

Goals of Title V
Title V "Transforming the College for Hispanic and Low income Students" has 4 major goals:
1. To increase student success, retention, completion and transfer to four-year institutions.
2. To engage communities in a collaborative support system for student success.
3. To increase the capacity of RHC staff in governmental relations.
4. To support student success through endowment matching funds.

GOAL ONE

To reach the first Title V goal several strategies have been used.  A SUBE Academy has been formed.  SUBE ( Student's University Bound Education)  is a sure-track transfer academy designed to increase student retention, persistence & transfer rates.   Student cohorts receive extra support through focused activities and a personal counselor who keeps them on their academic plan.  Also, each student is assigned a Faculty/Staff mentor who contacts them on a weekly basis.

A SUBE Task Force with representatives from all college staff meets monthly to recommend cohort activities .

Student Leadership/Success Conferences are held once a semester for the purpose of having students focus on their goals and the strategies they will use to achieve them. Leadership skills are taught and students are encouraged to develop them for their personal and academic success.

Faculty and Staff development activities are also planned in order to strengthen their capacity to serve our students' needs.

A computer check out program was designed to help students who plan to take on-line classes and who wish to update their computer skills

GOAL TWO   To engage communities in a collaborative support system for student success, a collaborative community partnership of civic, educational, business and community leaders was formed.  RHALEC (Rio Hondo Area Latino Education Council) meets three time a year to develop programs to streamline the academic pipeline in our area and share resources.

A RHALEC Support Team  meets monthly to follow initiatives proposed by the RHALEC Council

The "I'm Going to College!" programs in Pico Rivera and Santa Fe Springs are a result of RHALEC's collaborative effort

GOAL THREE   A college effort to increase college visibility and find new funding recourses as educational legislation develops by forming a RHC team to learn legislative policy, funding cycles and make visits to state and federal agencies is the main focus of goal three.

GOAL FOUR   Goal four is an effort to strengthen our ability to provide scholarships and emergency educational funding to reduce finance related attrition at RHC by having matching funds raised by our foundation.
