Student Leadership and Success Conference and
Facilitator Training Sessions |
The Student Success and Leadership
program begins by taking selected students through a facilitator
training process and they in turn plan and conduct the Student
Leadership and Success Conference every semester at Rio Hondo
College. The Conference is designed to refine students’
personal success plan, instill the power of goal setting and
planning, expand student support network, identify available
resources in school and in their community and help students build
their leadership skills.
|
|
Student Success Forums |
The purpose of the Student Success Forums is to give students an
opportunity to continue networking and building a personal support
system. The Forums also reinforce student commitment to
personal success and expand their knowledge and awareness of
available opportunities. Each forum involves a personal development
activity and a short presentation of resources available to help the
students with their personal goals. Forums are led by student
facilitators who organize and plan sessions as needed.

Pico Rivera
Education/Business Partnership Project “I’m Going to College!” |
The Pico Rivera
Education/Business Partnership is an innovative business, civic,
educational, community, and family partnership involving the Pico
Rivera Chambers, the El Rancho Unified School District, Rio Hondo
College and the City of Pico Rivera. The goal is to increase
the region's college-going rate by making a college education a
priority for high school graduates in the classes of 2008, 2009 and
2010. Appropriate student and parent activities that instill
college as a viable option for students will be provided for Pico
Rivera's middle schools of Burke, North Park and Rivera.
These students will then be followed through the twelfth grade ad be
provided with a variety of activities. Students enrolled in
the program that go directly to college after graduation will
receive a $1,000 monetary incentive upon their enrollment in a
college of their choice. The business and community leaders
have pledged to raise the necessary funds.

The Santa Fe Springs Education-Business-Community Partnership
"I'm Going to College!" Program
|
The city of Santa Fe Springs together with Rio Hondo College,
the Santa Fe Springs Chamber of Commerce, the Little Lake
School District and the Los Nietos School District is currently
providing students and parents in their area with an IGTC
program. The goal is to bring the parents the kind of
information they will need to make future decisions on the college
education of their children. They hold three parent meetings a
year and hold several student activities, such as visiting colleges
and providing a "College Boot Camp" for 6th graders. |

Parent Seminars |
Parent participation is a vital component of student success.
At Rio Hondo College and at local area schools, parents receive
information on college financial planning, career choices their
students could make, and how to improve family communication.
The purpose of this RHALEC activity is to give parents
perspectives of what education has to offer and to give them the
opportunity to network among themselves in regards to current
educational issues. Parents can gain greater consciousness
of the benefits and requirements for student success. The goal
of the parent seminars are to increase parent confidence in
their role as coaches and advocates for their students |
