RIO
HONDO COLLEGE
OFFICE
OF THE PRESIDENT
April

TO:
All Staff
FROM:
Manuel Baca, Ph.D.
SUBJECT: EMERGENCY
PREPAREDNESS
In
light of the situation at Virginia Tech on Monday, there
is a heightened sense of awareness relating to safety on
college campuses. At
Rio
Hondo College,
any potential threat to the College is taken seriously
and addressed quickly, as well as responsively.
Administrators
and employees across the campus are part of the
college’s Emergency Response Plan that addresses an
entire spectrum of contingencies, ranging from
relatively minor incidents to large-scale emergencies.
I have asked Joe Santoro
and Steve Lohr to hone our process and to ensure that we
are well trained and prepared for these unexpected
situations.
Rio
Hondo College
is committed to providing a safe and supportive
atmosphere for learning. One of the ways to accomplish
this is to have clear, open, and timely communication.
Please be particularly aware of your environment and
report any emergencies or suspicious behavior to ext.
3402 during the daytime hours (7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) or
ext. 3405 in the evening
(5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.).
Our
thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues and their
families at Virginia Tech.

Subject: Campus Security Alert
An incident recently
took place which we believe is important to share. A
note was found last night which conveyed that there was
a potential bomb threat to the campus. The Los Angeles
County Sheriff’s Department was immediately contacted
and responded quickly and in force to inspect every
building on the campus. The Sheriff’s Department
completed the search and found no credible evidence to
this threat.
There is no
additional information available at this time. If you
have any questions regarding this alert, please contact
Dr. Steven Lohr at extension 3441.
