Scholarship Name 2017 Fall Scholarship Description
2017 A Taste Of Rio Fund A Scholarship Fall Incoming Freshman Scholarship This $750 scholarship is for an applicant that best meets the following requirements:

  • Incoming Freshman.
  • 3.0 G.P.A. or higher. High School unofficial transcript required.
  • Enrolled in 9 units or more.
  • Completed all requirements of incoming freshman:
    • Assessment test
    • Orientation
    • Completed Educational Plan with Counselor
  • Receiving no other financial aid.

One (1) Recommendation Letter can be from a former teacher or community member (not family member).

Achieving the Dream Scholarship A minimum of a $250 scholarship for the applicant(s) that best meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a DREAM Act or eligible for DREAM Act student
  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least 6 units
  • Must have a current educational plan on file
  • Must demonstrate financial need

 

Ad Williamson Memorial Fall Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.5 G.P.A.
  • Completed twenty-four (24) units at Rio Hondo College.
  • Must have made an overall contribution to the Theatre Program with special emphasis in the area of costume.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
Albert S. T. Kim Scholarship $500 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Philosophy major
  • Completed thirty (30) units at Rio Hondo College
  • Demonstrates financial need

 

Dr. Alex Sanchez Scholarship $250 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least 9 units
  • Majoring in Environmental Technology or currently enrolled in the environmental technology program or closely related major
  • Educational plan either training for immediate employment after Rio Hondo College or transferring to a degree program in the specified areas of study
Assistance League® of Whittier Fall Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Single parent students with dependent children.
  • 2.5 G.P.A. or higher.
  • Currently enrolled in twelve (12) units or equivalent.
  • Continuing Rio Hondo College student.
  • Must live in the Rio Hondo Community College District service area.
  • Candidate will be selected by the Assistance League of Whittier scholarship Committee.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

Recipients must be available to:

  • Attend an interview with the Assistance League® of Whittier Scholarship Committee.
  • Attend the Assistance League® of Whittier recognition luncheon at the ALW Chapter House (date to be announced).
Assistance League® of Whittier Quaker Chemical/EPMAR Corp. Nursing Scholarship The Assistance League® of Whittier Quaker Chemical/EPMAR Corp. Nursing Scholarship supports nursing students with a scholarship award of at least $500 to be used for school related expenses, such as tuition, fees, books, equipment, uniforms, and transportation. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must:

  • Be enrolled and in good status in the ADN (RN) or LVN Program at Rio Hondo College
  • Be a single parent and head of household
  • Live in the Rio Hondo College District
  • Have financial need
  • Be available to attend a scholarship interview with the Assistance League of Whittier
  • Be available to attend Recognition Luncheon at the Assistance League Chapter House (Date to be announced)
Bender Ceramics Scholarship $500 scholarship for the applicant(s) that best meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA in all college courses
  • 3.5 GPA in ceramics courses
  • Must be intending to transfer for a four-year college or university for the Fall 2018 semester

 

 

Birnbaum Memorial Scholarship $150 scholarship for the applicant(s) that best meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of a 2.0 GPA
  • Must be majoring in kinesiology or physical education
  • Currently enrolled in at least 12 units
  • Completed at least one semester at Rio Hondo College
  • Student-athlete at Rio Hondo College
BVR Scholarship $250 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Have completed twelve (12) units
  • Currently enrolled in at least twelve (12) units or equivalent
  • Single parent
  • Participant in the CalWORKS Program

One (1) Recommendation Letter must be from a member of the Rio Hondo College CalWORKs program faculty or staff

Carol Young Brooke Scholarship $500 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least nine (9) units
  • Special consideration to those who are volunteering or employed in the arts or a related field
  • Must be pursuing a career in the arts

One (1) Recommendation Letter must be from a member of the Rio Hondo College arts faculty member

 Charles and Bonnie Isaacs Memorial Fall Scholarship

 

 

Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Music major.
  • Completed two (2) units at Rio Hondo College.
  • Currently enrolled in at least nine (9) units or equivalent.
  • One (1) Recommendation Letter must be from members of the Rio Hondo College Music Department faculty.
Christopher John Paul Nicoll Memorial Scholarship $500 Scholarship(s) for applicants that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.3 GPA
  • Must have completed at least 12 units
  • Currently enrolled in at least six (6) units
  • Pre-law or paralegal major
Claudia Arrevillaga Guerrero Memorial Fall Scholarship $500 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least twelve (12) units or equivalent.
  • Has declared a Language or Arts major at Rio Hondo College.
  • Actively involved in student clubs on campus.
  • Has an interest in the Arts (performing and visual).
  • Exhibits positive characteristics while committed to their education and volunteer work.
Diane & Maurice Meysenburg Fall Scholarship $250 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • History or Sociology major.
  • Completed fifteen (15) units at Rio Hondo College.
  • Currently enrolled in at least nine (9) units or equivalent.
Dr. Rose Marie Joyce Scholarship $500 scholarship for the applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  •  Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least 9 units
  • Must have completed at least 12 units
Greg Garza Memorial Fall Scholarship $275 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Current student in Vocational Education (Certificate Program).
  • Currently enrolled in at least 12 units or equivalent.
  • Completed twelve (12) units and no more than 60 units at Rio Hondo College.
  • Student has demonstrated a level of community commitment.
  • Actively involved in student clubs on campus.
Healthcare Scholarship $500 scholarship for the applicant(s) that best meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of a 2.0 GPA
  • Currently majoring in one of the following: EMT, AVN, LVN, Healthcare, Nursing, Medical Coding or related filed
  • Graduate of El Monte Union High School District (Arroyo High School, El Monte High School, Mountain View High School, Rosemead High School, South El Monte High School, Valle Lindo Continuation School, El Monte Adult School or Rosemead Adult School)
  • Currently enrolled in at least 9 units
  •  Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must be able to provide proof of diploma
HJ Construction Scholarship This $500 scholarship is for a student(s) that:

  • 2.9 or higher GPA
  • Is in the process of attaining a degree in one of the following;
    • Architecture (for transfer)
    • Architecture Design and Drawing
    • Engineering Design Drafting
    • Civil Design technology
  • Must desire a career in the construction, design or engineering industry
  • Must be a full or part-time student

 

Jean Korf Theatre Arts Fall Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.25 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least six (6) units.
  • Actively involved in Theater Arts program during the current fall semester and continuing during the spring semester.
  • One (1) Recommendation Letter must be from full-time member of the Rio Hondo College Theatre Arts Department faculty.
Joe Olmos Humanitarian Scholarship Scholarship for the applicant that best meets the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Enrolled in at least 12 units or 8 units for nursing majors
  • Must demonstrate community involvement
  • Must demonstrate financial need
Kaiser Permanente Nursing Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Full time nursing student in good standing.
  • Enrolled in at least 8 (eight) units.
Osher Initiative for CA Community College Students Fall Scholarship

 

Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Must have completed 24 or more “degree applicable” semester units (or the equivalent) at the time initial scholarship disbursement.
  • Must be enrolled in six (6) or more units.
  • Must have received a Board of Governor’s (BOG) Fee Waiver.
  • Award will be pro-rated on number of units student is enrolled in at time of application submission.
Owen Newcomer Scholarship $500 Scholarship for the applicant that best meets the following criteria:

  • Minimum of a 3.25 GPA
  • Must have attended a Whittier District high school for all four years (must be able to provide proof of graduation)
  • Political Science major
  • Completed at least 18 units at Rio Hondo College
  • Currently enrolled in at least 8 units
  • Letter of recommendation from Political Science faculty
  • Preference given to those with a strong community or campus involvement
Rio Hondo College Follett Bookstore Fall Scholarship $400 bookstore credit scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.0 GPA
  • Completed twelve (12) units at Rio Hondo College.
  • Currently enrolled in at least twelve (12) units or equivalent.
  • Will be enrolled and attending Rio Hondo College the Spring 2018 semester.
  • Priority for Veterans/Active Military and DSPS students.
Rio Hondo College Management/Confidential Council Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Completed twelve (12) units at Rio Hondo College;
  • Currently enrolled in at least twelve (12) units or equivalent
Serena Cram Keats Memorial Scholarship A $250 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Completed thirty (30) units or more at Rio Hondo College;

·         Must be intending to transfer for a four-year college or university for the Fall 2018 semester

  • Demonstrates financial need
The Helen and Jolene Amaya Memorial Fall Scholarship The Helen and Jolene Amaya Memorial Scholarship is a $250 award for the applicant that best meets the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Declared Drug Studies major
  • Have at least 12 units completed at Rio Hondo
  • Be a single-parent in EOPS/CARE and/or CalWORKs program

One (1) letter of recommendation from a faculty member in EOP&S, CARE, CalWORKs, or the Social Sciences division.

Wetsman Family Anthropology Scholarship Scholarships are awarded based upon the following factors:

  • Number of anthropology classes taken or currently taking at Rio Hondo College
    • 6 or more units of anthropology and/or sociology 110 required to be completed by the end of this term
  • Grades in anthropology/sociology 110 classes
  • Overall grade point average
Yoshio C. Nakamura Fall Scholarship $100 scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.25 GPA or higher overall and 3.25 in Arts classes.
  • Art or Commercial Art major.
  • Completed fifteen (15) units at Rio Hondo College.
  • Must have nine (9) units in Arts classes.
  • Currently enrolled in at least six (6) units.
  • Demonstrates community service and/or campus involvement.
  • Demonstrates financial need.
