Academic Initiatives

The GEAR UP After-school Program provides
supplemental instruction in Language-Arts and Mathematics and averages close to
200 students in daily attendance through an Extended-day Learning
instruction model serving over 485 students during the annual performance
reporting period

16 GEAR
UP Tutors
provide instructional support in Language Arts and Mathematics classes
Parent Initiatives
·
GEAR UP
sponsored an Academic Success Family Night for all 6th, 7th,
and 8th grade parents and students in May of 2008. The event had
170 unique families present with over 400 people in attendance
CST Results 2007
·
Class of
2012 experienced a 18% increase in proficiency in Language Arts and a
4% increase in proficiency in Mathematics
·
In Language
Arts, 36% of Continuing GEAR UP students gained at least one achievement
level on their 2007 CST scores compared to their 2006 scores
·
In
Mathematics, 21% of Continuing GEAR UP Students gained at least one
achievement level on their 2007 CST scores compared to their 2006 scores
