PURPOSE OF SYMPOSIUM:

The goal for the “Educational Pathways to Green Jobs” symposium is to identify topics and subject areas which can be infused into the general community college curriculum. In addition, there is a more specific interest in identifying two-year vocational/ occupational degrees and programs which can provide community college students with the skills and training necessary to fill environment-related internships and jobs.
 

FOCUS AREAS:

   Focus Area 1: Waste Management (including the following subcategories):

• Solid waste management

• Hazardous waste management

• Universal waste management

   Focus Area 2: Water and Waste Water Management (including the following subcategories):

• Wastewater treatment

• Groundwater contamination

• Reclaimed water

   Focus Area 3: Alternative/Efficient Energy Systems

• As it applies to transportation (including advanced transportation technology)

• As it applies to industry

• As it applies to domestic/residential (including building insulation, windows, lighting, etc.)

   Focus Area 4: Environmental Health and Safety

• Federal OSHA regulations

• State OSHA regulations

• EPA & DOT regulations regarding movement of materials

   Focus Area 5: Land-Use Planning & Environmental Restoration (including the following):

• Natural resources restoration

• Remediation

• Brownfields/Superfund sites
