Who is CPTP for?
Community College Students over 18 years old who:
- have never considered teaching
- have just started wondering if the teaching might be for them
- are already considering becoming a teacher
Eligibility Requirements for Student Participants
- Must be 18 years or over at the time of beginning participation in the CPTP program
- Available to participate in a minimum of 30 hours of one-on-one mentoring
- Must be a registered/enrolled student at Rio Hondo College
- Application required
CPTP students will:
- Receive a stipend of $250 per semester (up to 4 semesters)
- Receive guidance and inspiration from a teacher mentor, a success coach, and a community of peers and teachers
- Explore Pre-K through Community College teaching, STEM Education, Special Education, and Early Childhood Education through workshops and classroom observation
- Participate in social justice and equity learning opportunities

- Pre-K through Community College levels
CPTP Timeline
Students can participate in the CPTP program for 4 semesters:
- Fall 2021
- Spring 2022
- Fall 2022
- Spring 2023
Teacher Mentoring Network
As a CPTP student, you can also participate in the Teacher Mentoring Network (TMN).
Teacher Mentoring Network (TMN) is a space where:
- Students are welcome—aspiring, considering, and still unsure about becoming a teacher
- Student engagement, advisement, affinity groups, kinship, and belonging are offered
- Teachers are welcome—veteran, novice, and prospective
- Teachers and peers provide connection and support extending beyond the Community College experience
- Professional learning communities (by subject, grade level, demographics, etc.) are available
