The MSC offers online classes which provides great flexibility for Rio Hondo students. The courses the MSC offers are divided into one unit modules: for basic math (Math 020) it is 3 one unit modules (020A, 020B, 020C), and for Pre-algebra (Math 030) to Intermediate Algebra (Math 070) it is 4 one unit modules (Ex. 070A, 070B, 070C, 070D). Completion of all the modules for one course is equivalent to completion of a traditional lecture course. Students utilize an online program that allows them to proceed through course work designed by an instructor in accordance to their schedule. Students are Required to take all test on campus at their own convenience. This online model allows students to complete as many modules as they are able to in one semester, or as few as one module per semester. For more information we highly recommend you attend an orientation.
New students must report the firs week of class or they may be dropped. They must visit the Math & Science Center (room: S-300) to fill out forms, take a pre-test, and meet with an instructor. This may take about 30-45 minutes.
when students meet with the instructor they will receive information handout on how to get started. In addition MSC staff we will provide students with the opportunity to set-up the web-based software they will use, and all pertinent procedures and information about taking test in the MSC. No appointment is necessary to meet with an instructor. Just visit the MSC within our hours of operation. Mon. – Thurs. 9a-8p & Sat. 9a-2p, if meeting with the instructor in the evening please plan accordingly; the instructor is not available beyond hours of operation.
Students who are in progress in our courses, or are picking up from where they left off from a previous semester are known to us as “returning students.” Returning students who have been taking a course with us are not required to attend another orientation. If you have taken a MSC online course and if it has been more than two years since you last registered for a MSC course. We require that you attend an orientation to be reminded of the requirements for the MSC courses. Lastly all returning students need to visit the MSC the first week to fill out pertinent paperwork, solve any technical issues, and pick up the current semester’s syllabus that contains your course ID (this is not given over the phone or by e-mail).
