STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
All students who are interested in participating in the
MESA Community College Program (CCCP) must meet the following
academic ,
economically disadvantaged
and educationally disadvantaged criteria in order to take part in the program.
Academic Criteria
1)
Student indicates intent to transfer to a four year institution
2)
Student will major in a Math based field – some majors that are considered “MESA CCCP
majors” are Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering,
Mathematics/Physics, Pre-Medical, Pharmacy, Optometry etc.,
Life Sciences – Botany, Biology, Zoology, etc. (includes
Agriculture transfers)Earth Sciences,
Chemistry, Environmental Sciences
3)
Student’s education plan indicates the intent to enroll in a minimum of
two sequential courses of calculus
and physics.
4)
Student is ready for and enrolled in at least elementary algebra.
5)
Student completes a MESA application form
6)
Student completes a three year educational plan that is updated each
semester
7)
Student agrees to participate in MESA CCCP activities and signs a student
contract.
8)
Student maintains academic performance specified in the contract

Economically Disadvantaged Criteria
In addition to the student meeting the academic criteria,
a potential MESA student must meet one or more of the following criteria.

Eligible for EOP&S
·
Eligible for the Board of Governor’s Grant (Fee Waiver)
·
Parent/Guardian/Student on TANF (formerly AFDC)
·
Receive need based financial aid
·
Participant in one of the Federal TRIO Programs
Educationally
Disadvantaged Criteria
In addition to the student meeting the academic criteria and economically
disadvantaged criteria a potential MESA student must be the first generation in
his/her family to go to college. Please speak with the Director of the Mesa
Program if you are not sure whether you qualify.
While MESA CCCP does
not deny admission to those students who meet the above criteria, emphasis is
placed on inclusion of students who are from groups with the lowest eligibility
for admission to university in math, engineering and science majors.
