Grants - Stipends - Scholarships

Make sure to check this page regularly since new opportunities arise all the time.

Before you transfer you should have applied for at least one Grant or Stipend. There are many sources out there for you to tap into.

  • NSF S-STEM Grant  http://nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.cfm

    Eligible are full-time students with a minimum GPA  of 2.5; enrolled in MESA; majoring in math, computer science or engineering; demonstrates financial need; permanent resident or US citizen; applied to a school that has an MEP program;. Students in their last year at the community college can apply for a scholarship of $12,500 for 1yr at the CC and three years after transfer. See the MESA director for more information. This is due around the end of February.

     

  • College STEM Majors -- $2,000 Scholarship
    Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Scholarships opens November 10, 2009

    Hispanic college students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and Puerto Rico pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field major are invited to apply for a $2,000 one-time scholarship of which 25 will be awarded in the Spring of 2009.

  • Hispanic Scholarship Fund

    Eligible students who are US citizens or legal residents, have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA, apply for federal financial aid using the FAFSA  and have plans to be enrolled FULL-TIME in a degree seeking program at a US accredited institution in the fall 2009. Apply online at www.hsf.net through February 18, 2009.
    Scholarships are available for students of all levels of college. Awards range from  $1000 - $10,000; All majors are eligible, over 4000 scholarships awarded each year. Special Scholarship Opportunities for Community College students planning to transfer to a four-year institution.

  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) - US Department of Commerce
    Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

    Deadline is February 15, 2010

    Eligible students should be undergraduate students, who are US citizens or permanent residents, with a scientific major and a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale).  Students majoring in physics, materials science, engineering, computer science, chemistry, or mathematics are encouraged to apply; research opportunities for students with majors in other disciplines may be available.

    Transfer Students

Great Scholarship Opportunity for transfer students applying to CAL!

Apply in Dec right after college apps are due and before admission decisions are out.  Once you get admitted and decide to come to Cal, the scholarship is yours: $6,000 each year, a laptop, plus a wonderful support group!!!

NACE Los Angeles Section Scholarship, $2,000.00  DEADLINE: FEB 15, 2010

The NACE International Los Angeles Section is providing a $2,000 scholarship to a LA, OC, Riverside or San Bernardino County student majoring in the sciences or engineering.  We read your essay, choose a winner, and then send a check. 

To be considered, please respond in writing to the following question:
WHY IS CORROSION CONTROL IMPORTANT IN YOUR FIELD OF STUDY?

Judging will take place during happy hour.  We like graphs, pictures and a clear structured story.

The HP Scholar programwww.hp.com/go/hpscholars  is a fantastic award for students. The HP Scholar program offers scholarship opportunities to underrepresented minority (African American, Latino, or American Indian) students who will pursue a bachelor of science degree in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering at an HP Scholar partnership university (UCLA, University of Washington, San Jose State, Morgan State, or North Carolina A&T). Deadline: March 15, 2009
