RIO
HONDO COLLEGE COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION OFFERS HIGH SCHOOL PREP
FOR CAHSEE AND SAT EXAMS
WHITTIER,
CA – This spring, Rio Hondo College’s Community Education Services
Department is offering test preparation classes for high school
students. Preparation for the CAHSEE: Math (California High School
Exit Exam) and The New SAT – Including the New Written Essay are
intended to help high school students prepare for these challenging
and important examinations.
Instructor
Jerry Bobrow, Ph.D., will teach Preparation for the CAHSEE: Math.
The course will prepare students to pass the math assessment portion
of the new California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). In the course,
Dr. Bobrow will review each math category tested, including Number
Sense, Statistics, Data Analysis, and Probability, Measurement
and Geometry, Algebra and Functions, Mathematical Reasoning and
Algebra I. The State of California now requires that students
pass the CAHSEE to receive a high school diploma. The class begins
on February 25 and continues through March 18, 2006. The cost
for the class is $295.
The
New SAT –Including the New Written Essay will also be led by Dr.
Bobrow. Classes begin on April 8 and conclude on April 29, 2006.
Cost for the course is $265. The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
is the entrance examination most students take when applying to
college. In 2005, for the first time, the SAT included a writing
portion, which consisted of writing a short essay in response
to a prompt. The SAT prep class will devote time to essay-writing
strategies, as well as instruction on how to take the Math and
Language Arts portions of the test. Classes will be taught by
credentialed teachers who specialize in mathematics or English.
Included in the course fee is the test prep book, Cliff’s Test
prep for the New SAT Preparation Guide which was authored by Dr.
Bobrow.
