Rio Hondo College Police Academy Cadets to Grace Cover of
Equipment Catalog
Tyra Banks was nowhere to be seen, there were no spotlights or
paparazzo, and the "runway" consisted of concrete, but a hundred of
Southern California's next top police officers flashed huge smiles
as they posed for the cover of Galls Incorporated's uniform and
equipment catalog. Galls, one of the nation's largest suppliers of
public safety equipment and apparel, selected the cadets of the Rio
Hondo College Police Academy to be their catalog cover models for
Galls' spring line. The catalog will be seen by officers in hundreds
of police departments throughout the western U.S.
"We chose the Rio Hondo Police Academy because the program has a
great reputation for turning out professional law enforcement
officers who are well-trained and ready to serve communities
throughout California," according to Lou Jaeger, sales manager for
Galls. "And Rio Hondo has been one of our best customers for the
past fifteen years."
"For more than 40 years, the Rio Hondo Police Academy has been the
premiere law enforcement training program in our region," said Gary
Mendez, President of the Rio Hondo College Board of Trustees. "We're
very pleased to be recognized by Galls, a national leader in uniform
and equipment supply."
The Los Angeles County Police Chiefs' Association and Rio Hondo
College Police Academy Training Program was established in 1964. It
has grown into one of California's largest police training centers.
It is also one of the top fifteen associate degree producers in the
nation for protective services. Since 1964, Rio Hondo has trained
more than 10,000 police recruits and provided thousands of
experienced officers with advanced training.
The Rio Hondo Police Academy sponsors four basic police training
classes each year, one extended basic police academy class and a
series of extensive ongoing advanced police officer training and
supervisory courses to over fifty Federal, State, County, Municipal
and Specialized Law Enforcement Agencies in Los Angeles, Ventura,
San Bernardino and Orange Counties. For information on Rio Hondo's
