RIO HONDO COLLEGE RECOGNIZES WHITTIER CITY POLICE CHIEF FOR
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
Whittier - Rio Hondo College recognized Whittier City Police
Chief David Singer at this year’s Whittier Area School
Administrators (WASA) Annual Community Recognition Breakfast on
Wednesday at Pico Park Community Center. The event is designed
to allow the Superintendents from each school district
represented in the Whittier area to nominate an outstanding
citizen to be recognized.
WASA is a Charter Member of Region XV of the Association of
California School Administrators (ACSA). Region XV is the second
largest ACSA region in California, with more than 1650 members,
24 charters, and 53 school districts. WASA includes
representatives from East Whittier School District, El Rancho
Unified School District, Little Lake School District, Los Nietos
School District, Rio Hondo Community College District, South
Whittier School District, Tri-Cities ROP, Whittier City School
District, Whittier Union High School District, and Whittier
College.
One of WASA’s goals is to seek positive alliances and champion
public education. The partnership between Rio Hondo College and
Chief Singer is a great example of this kind of positive
alliance.
“Strengthening partnerships is one of our priorities at Rio
Hondo, and one of the key collaborations we have seen is with
Chief Singer and the Whittier Police Department,” said college
president, Dr. Rose Marie Joyce. “We don’t operate in a vacuum.
Every program is developed with the goal of promoting increased
opportunities for local residents. As we augment our Criminal
Justice Program, we are working with local police agencies, such
as the Whittier Police Department, to ensure we are increasing
job opportunities and public safety potential for local
residents.”
“It is a special honor to receive this recognition from Rio
Hondo College,” said David Singer, Whittier City Police Chief
and Chairman of the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’
Association Advisory Panel. “Whittier City Police Department and
all Los Angeles County police departments appreciate the open
dialogue and communication about our training needs that we
enjoy with the Rio Hondo Police Academy. It is one of the most
responsive academies that I have ever worked with.”
