Rio Hondo Offers
Students a Fall Semester in London
Whittier — Rio Hondo College is
offering students the opportunity to study in London
for the Fall semester, September 8 to December 9,
2006. The cost for the semester is $6,995 including
a shared homestay. Financial Aid is available to
eligible students.
The program provides a course of
study that mirrors the students' college program.
All the classes are taught by faculty from the
consortium. Most courses are transferable and will
apply to the earning of a bachelor's degree. There
are also opportunities for learning outside of the
classroom. Students will have time to travel with
the consortium guides on planned activities or to
travel independently. As a part of the overall
experience students will be housed by local families
where they will be able to develop insights into the
English culture.
"Rio Hondo College continues to
expand our academic offering," said Gary Mendez,
President of the Rio Hondo College Board of
Trustees. "College is a critical time of discovery
for students, and this semester abroad offers them a
chance to expand their view of the world and their
place in it."
As a member of the Southern
California Foothills Consortium, Rio Hondo College
is participating in the consortium's partnership
with the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS)
College Division to offer this unique academic
experience. To participate in the program students
must have a GPA of at least 2.0 in at least 12 units
of previous college transferable course work.
"The program is a wonderful
opportunity for Rio Hondo College students," said
Dr. Rose Marie Joyce, President of Rio Hondo
College. "We have students at Rio Hondo that have
excelled in their coursework and are ready for this
new challenge. I am pleased that the College can
offer them this program."
