Submitting Assignments through the Assignment Tool

1.  Click on the Assignment icon to view the assignments you are expected to complete in class. 

2. Type up the assignment in word processing program, such as Microsoft Word.  Be sure to proofread and spell check and grammar check the document prior to submission.  This is your opportunity to practice professionalism. 

a. To save the file, go to File and Save as a Web Page

b.  When naming the file DO NOT use spaces, tabs, line feeds, carriage returns, or symbols, including: : ~ [ ] ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) + ` } } | \ < > , ? / ; ' "

For example, the file name should look similar to this: assignment1.htm

3. To upload completed assignment, click the Assignments icon/link. The Assignments screen appears.


4. Click the hyperlinked name of the assignment you want to submit. The Assignment Instructions screen appears.


5. Click Student Files. The View/Upload Files For Assignments screen appears.


6. Click Upload. The Upload File For Assignment screen appears.


7. Click Browse to locate the file on your computer. Select the file by DOUBLE clicking on it. The Upload File For Assignments screen reappears, with the name of the file in the Filename text box. MAKE SURE THE FILE EXTENSION IS INCLUDED.


8. Click Upload. The View/Upload Files For Assignments screen reappears with a box that shows your file.


9. Click the tiny Return to Assignment hyperlink towards the top of the page. The Assignment Instructions screen reappears and the box with your file disappears. Not to worry!


10. Click Submit Assignment. The Submit Assignment screen and the box you're your file reappears.


11. If your instructor has enabled WebCT's email notification feature, you can receive email notification that your assignment was submitted successfully. Type your complete external email address into the text box. If your instructor has not enabled the email notification feature, this text box will not appear.


12. Click Submit Assignment. A confirmation box appears asking you to confirm the procedure. Click OK.

13. The Assignments screen reappears, with the message Not Graded appearing in the Status column. When the assignment has been graded, this message changes to a hyperlink that says Graded and your grade appears in the Grade column. Click Graded to view your instructor's comments.
