Men's Baseball Head Coach - Mike Salazar 8th Year

Mike Salazar enters his 9th season as the
Roadrunners head baseball coach. While at Rio Hondo, Coach Salazar has
brought a winning tradition to the Roadrunners baseball program. In 2005
he led Rio Hondo to its first conference championship since 1989. During
his time at Rio Hondo, Coach Salazar has successfully placed more than
80% of his sophomores into four year institutions or professional
baseball contracts. This fact makes his Rio Hondo program among one of
the best in California JUCO baseball when it comes to moving their
players to the next level of competition. The Roadrunners where 37-12
last year and where ranked in the Top 20 in Southern California thought
out the 2006 season and will began the 2006 campaign among the top 15
teams in the state. Coach Salazar comes to Rio Hondo after spending
6 seasons as an assistant coach at Citrus junior College. Prior to
Citrus College, Coach Salazar played at Azusa Pacific University, where
he received both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. After his playing
career at APU, Coach Salazar played a couple of seasons of professional
baseball for the Tri-City Posse pro-baseball club in the state of
Washington, and the Kalamazoo Michigan Kodiaks. Coach Salazar and his
wife Krista reside in Glendora with their two kids Kralyn (7 years old),
and future “Dirty Bird” A.J. ( 5 years old).
Assistant Coach Tom Fenton
Tom Fenton will be the pitching coach this year
for
Rio Hondo. After two seasons as the University of
La Verne Graduate Assistant, Tom brings a wealth of
knowledge to the Roadrunners mix of young and veteran
pitching staff.
Fenton Played for two seasons under Coach Salazar
and then played two seasons at La Verne university.
Fenton is a graduate University Of La Verne. He
Earned his Masters Degree in Business in 2006. He
wants to pursue a career in education as along with
coaching.
