BERNARDINO VALLEY’S HOME WIN STREAK
RHC hit the road
to play the defending 2010 California State Champions, San
Bernardino Valley College (8-2-2), in a Foothill Conference matchup
on October 7. SBVC hadn’t lost a game at home since October of
2008, three years and over 25 games ago!
The Roadrunners
were determined to make history and did just that. Just 12 minutes
into the game freshman striker Alejandra Gonzalez (Bell Gardens HS)
took a shot that was blocked by a SBVC defender right onto the foot
of Roadrunner midfielder Jessica Ortiz (San Pedro/Narbonne) who
blasted a shot from 30 yards out into
the upper corner of the goal
to give Rio Hondo a 1-0 lead.
Freshman
defenders, Jasmine Sanchez (Don Lugo HS), Marysol Flores (Downey
HS), Daisy Hernandez (El Rancho HS), Robin Serpas (Downey HS) along
with sophomore co-captain Erika Garay (Walnut HS) turned away the
Valley attack each time they threatened. Sophomore Goalkeeper,
Sandra Rodriguez led the team for a well earned shutout in the

Rio Hondo Soccer Raises Money To Fight Cancer 2010!
The
Roadrunners collected cell phones, ipods and other mobile devices to
raise funds to donate to the City of Hope cancer center. The team
also wore special 'pink' uniforms for their annual Fight Cancer
fundraising game in 2010. This is the 2nd year in a row the Women's
Team has held a fundraiser to support the fight against cancer. In
the spring of 2010 they held a Blood Drive to support their
Assistant Coach in her fight against cancer and collected over 60
pints of blood...according to one Red Cross worker, it was the most
collected in a single day from one donation center.
