Coach Mike
Hinze is a graduate of Humbolt State
University. He completed his masters degree at Azusa
Pacific
University. He began his coaching career at OCC
in 1989 where he led the men's water polo team to a
fourth place finish in the 1993 State Championships.
Mike's
playing experience with Golden West College
(GWC), Orange Coast College, and Loyola University
of Chicago
(Division 1) helped him develop an effective coaching style.
Since coming to Rio Hondo College in
1994, he has made an immediate impact on the community college sports
scene.
His
impressive back-to-back state championship teams
led him to be named the Western States Conference,
Southern Regional and State Women's Water Polo
"Coach of the Year" for 1995 and 1996.
Hinze has
coached the women's water polo team and
men's and women's swim teams at Rio Hondo College
for over 10 very successful years.
