Since 1970, with the formation of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a regulatory agency and the continuous passage of
new environmental laws and regulations, environmental employment opportunities have
greatly expanded. These jobs span such industries as science, construction,
education, business, and the private and public sectors. This growth has
reached $132 billion dollars and it is estimated that 2 million individuals are employed
in this field in the United States. It has also been estimated that the
clean-up of known contaminated sites throughout the nation could reach up to 2 trillion dollars.
Companies that produce hazardous waste are seeking
to clean-up their past problems, manage their on-going waste, and avoid litigation and
liability. To accomplish this, they are working to clean up the environment,
minimize waste, and prevent pollution they need qualified, knowledgeable
personnel to get the job done.
Education is the key to getting your share
of the action and that is where Rio Hondo College's Environmental Technology program comes
into the picture. Our program has been developed in cooperation with government and
industry. It is state of the art, nationally recognized, and is continuously
updated to provide the student with the skills, knowledge, and qualifications to compete
in today's competitive job market.
Currently, the law requires different
levels of training depending on the type of job assignment. The ET program at RHC provides entry, advanced, and custom level training to comply with local, state, and
federal laws and regulations.
