MOTION: It was moved that the Academic Senate support
the college’s effort involving the partnership with University of La Verne
provided that there are no negative impacts from the University of La Verne’s
use of facilities. Jennifer Fernandez. Second: Belen Torres-Gil. Motion
passed unanimously

MOTION: That Academic Senate representative Michelle
Pilati support the resolution “Resolved, that the Academic Senate for California
Community Colleges reaffirm the current minimum requirement for English in
awarding an associate degree, stipulated in Title 5 section 55805. 5 as an
English course at one level below the course typically known as 1A, with local
colleges retaining the option to raise that standard.” Katie O’Brien.
Second: Belen Torres-Gil. Motion passed by majority with two opposed

Community Colleges reaffirm the current minimum requirement for mathematics in
awarding an associate degree, stipulated in Title 5 section 55805.5 as an
elementary algebra course, with local colleges retaining the option to raise
that standard.” Carolyn Russell. Second: Belen Torres-Gil. Motion passed
unanimously
MOTION: It was moved that the Academic Senate request a
line-item budget from the district to ensure that we are best able to act in the
interest of our students. Carolyn Russell. Second: Belen Torres-Gil. Motion
passed unanimously.

MOTION: That the Academic Senate establish an
exploratory committee to make suggestions for integrating Information
Competencies. Belen Torres-Gil. Second: Jim Newman. Motion passed
unanimously

MOTION: It was moved that division update discussion
be moved to the next meeting to accommodate time limits for guest speakers.
Fernandez. Second: Hawley. passed unanimously
MOTION: It was moved that the Academic Senate accept
the Senate Attendance resolution. Torres-Gil. Second: Puga.
Motion passed unanimously
September 7, 2004
MOTION: The Academic Senate has a concern that the
proposed changes to the 6000s of the Board Policies reflect a diminishing of
shared governance at Rio Hondo College, in particular the roles of the Academic
Senate and the Planning/Fiscal Council, and move the college away from a model
of collegiality to a corporate model. (Whelan. Second: Bethel)

MOTION: It was moved that the Motion regarding Senate
Attendance be tabled until the next meeting [September 21]. (Russell.
Second: Pacheco. Passed unanimously).
August 24, 2004
MOTION: It was moved that the Senate directs the
Academic Senate President to convey to the board our concern about any delays in
implementing the Master Plan in particular potential denial of services to
students and loss of funds. Pacheco/Second: O’Brien. Motion passed with
2 abstentions.
MOTION: To direct the Senate Executive to draft a
motion incorporating the discussion today on the attendance of the college
president. Pacheco/Second: Torres-Gil. Motion passed unanimously
MOTION: That the Academic Senate reinforce its
commitment to itsguiding principles of the Master Plan as established through
campus wide governance process. Torres-Gil/Second: Pacheco. Motion
passed unanimously
