Tech Ed 2010 - Free Passes for All Staff! Summer Staff Development Grants - Applications now being accepted for individuals and/or work groups looking for support for professional development activities taking place between May 15th and September 30th, 2010. Given limited funding, those applicants who clearly describe how  the activity will be shared with the campus community or how the project meets a work group training need that has buy in from potential participants and who have not already been awarded a grant in 2009-2010  will be given priority.

Maximum Awards:                             $1800 for work groups/departments, $1200 for individuals, .                                                         $200 for Part-time faculty

Support for Low Cost Trainings/Conferences! – Interested in a low cost conference or training (i.e. @One Institute) but not the paperwork of a more costly grant?  Consider applying for one of our "low cost" grants. These are offered on a "rolling" basis throughout the year as longs as funds last. 

Maximum Award:                    $200.00

Application Process:                Prior to the event, submit an approved travel requisition and our new brief "Low Cost" grant form to Staff Development describing how this activity will improve your professional skills. If approved, fill out required paperwork for reimbursement within 30 days.

Faculty Opportunity -Teach a Semester in Salamanca Spring 2011 - Rio Hondo College is part of the Southern California Foothills Consortium for Study Abroad and is therefore eligible to nominate faculty to teach in that program.  In Spring of 2011, we will be returning to Salamanca, Spain. Selected faculty are generally expected to teach four different general education classes that align with the offerings of the lead consortium institution, Citrus College.

4 Faculty Online Professional Development –  Interested in enhancing your skills as an instructor but have a hard time finding the time to attend workshops?  Try visiting www.4faculty.org.  This online, self-paced tutorial system created specifically for California Community College faculty is a fantastic resource on a wide-range of topics such as creating syllabi, understanding community college students, learning theory, teaching methodology, and classroom management.  Note for 2009-2010, due to budget cuts, the 4faculty site has not been updated for 2 years.  You may still access materials, but to be aware that some information and links are dated.
