Alpha Gamma Sigma is a state-wide community college honor society.
The three Greek letters stand for the three Greek words, which may be translated as follows:
A ALPHA stands for Arete meaning "Excellence"
G
GAMMA stands for Gnosis meaning "Knowledge"
S SIGMA stands for Sophrosyne meaning "Wisdom"
Mission Statement
The mission of this chapter and organization shall be to foster, promote,
maintain, and recognize scholarship among students at Rio Hondo College;
to develop programs offering cultural, social, and enrichment activities
as part of the total college experience; to promote service to the
college, the community, and the Sigma Phi Chapter; and to emphasize the
development of leadership, character, and judgment.
Announcements:
Permanent member cords and general member sashes for graduation are
available. There are two sashes available to buy for $22.
