higher educated workers is causing millions of adults around the country
to flock to colleges. Other adults just want to keep up with changing
technological advances or stay intellectually stimulated. Whatever your

The following are
some suggestions for making the transition easier.

Take college basic skills assessment.
Find out which basic skill
areas you need to refresh so that you can feel confident about
handling college coursework. Visit the Assessment Center website

Work closely with a counselor either in
the Counseling Department or the Career Development Center.
Your time and money are
precious. A counselor can identify goals and make recommendations
that keep you focused and on track to reach those goals.

Utilize Career Development Center
resources and activities.
The Career Development Center
hosts many workshops, special programs and industry field trips that
are a cost-effective and created in an interesting way for you to
get connected and informed.

Meet with your instructors during their
office hours.
Instructor office hours are
often underutilized so take advantage of this opportunity to share
concerns or seek extra assistance regarding coursework.
Attending college
as a mature student changes one’s focus about the learning experience.
It’s very likely that you will find it to be a much more positive and
