Rio Hondo College Child
Development Center/Lab School believes in a philosophy that celebrates the
uniqueness and diversity of all children by respecting them as individuals. We
recognize that children learn best by direct experiences. Each child’s natural
curiosity and desire to learn is encouraged by providing them with abundant
opportunities to explore their world. Young children learn by doing, touching,
experimenting, choosing, talking, and negotiating. We encourage, acknowledge
and support the interests that emerge from the children’s daily lives. The
children’s development is our focus, and as facilitators and educators, we
believe in implementing ideas and curriculum by using developmentally
appropriate strategies in a nurturing and stimulating environment.
The Center serves as a
Laboratory facility for Rio Hondo College’s Child Development Education
program. Students, supervised by their instructors, observe, record data and
may interact with the children while in the process of developing their own
teaching skills. Data on children is kept confidential between the instructor
and students.
