About the Program
The Dual-Enrollment Program has been state and
nationally recognized as a
“model”
Tech Prep program allowing students to
simultaneously complete high school graduation and
associate degree requirements.
History:
The Dual-Enrollment
Program was established in 2003 when Rio Hondo
College was awarded the National Tech Prep
Demonstration Project 5-year grant through
the United States Department of Education.
The grant required partnerships with secondary
schools and industry partners to create a
seamless transition for students in high school
through higher education and the world of work.
Our partnerships include public and private high
school districts from the surrounding area as
well as industry partners.
Students were first admitted to the
program in 2004 as part of our first student
cohort. Since then, students have been recruited
and admitted to the program on a yearly basis
(once a year) as part of our student cohorts 2
and 3. Currently the program is recruiting
students for cohort 4.
Our program operates as a "Continuous Improvement
Model", therefore allowing for input and
recommendations from students, parents and our
advisory partners. Due to positive
feedback, our program has changed enormously to
meet the needs of our students and partners.
We have been extremely successful at
demonstrating program improvements that have
resulted in student success.
