Rio Hondo College
participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), offering both
subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans to our students. Unlike, grants and
scholarships, a student loan must be repaid with interest and should be
requested only after you have exhausted al other resources of financial
assistance.
The Federal Student Loan
Program has annual and lifetime aggregate borrowing limits for your
undergraduate study. Borrowing too much too early in your education career can
limit your borrowing when you transfer to or attend a 4 year institution.
All students applying for
a federal student loan at Rio Hondo College must attend a
Mandatory Loan Workshop. Loan Workshops dates are listed below.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
BEFORE REQUESTING A STUDENT LOAN FROM RHC

You must have completed the 2009-2010 Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

You must have completed your 2009-2010
financial aid file by submitting all required documents to the RHC Office of
Financial Aid
-
You must be making Satisfactory Academic
Progress (SAP). Our SAP standard may be viewed at
www.riohondo.edu/students/financialaid

You must be enrolled in at least (6) units per
semester in a program leading to a degree or certificate at Rio Hondo
College and/or transfer to a university

You must not be in default/or owe an
overpayment to any financial aid program

Attend a mandatory loan workshop
-
You must complete and pass a Loan Entrance
Exam online at
www.edfund.net and provide a printed confirmation of successful
completion of the test. Please be sure to select "California" and "Rio
Hondo College" when you are required. Since you have never received a loan
at Rio Hondo College be sure to select the "Entrance Exam".
Loan packets will be
distributed at the loan workshop. It is mandatory that students return their
Loan Application Worksheet and MPN to the Office of Financial Aid within
48 hours of attending a loan workshop.

***Note beginning the 2010-2011 year RHC Office of Financial Aid will no longer
be participating in the Stafford Loan Program. RHC will officially become a
participant in the Federal Stafford Direct Lending Program. No longer is it
necessary for students to select a lender to service their loan.
