YOU need to do your part.

Welcome to the "Visual Technology" labs.  Using our computer network has its privileges -- and its responsibilities.  Here are a few tips to help you survive the semester!

  1. There is NO food or drink allowed in the Labs! – Eat and drink outside in the breezeway or at the table in S306F in the central core area (if available), never in the labs.

  1. Write down your username and password – Forgotten passwords and/or usernames are the #1 student problem in the computer labs.  Use a password that is easy to remember.  Remember your username.  Write them BOTH down.

  1. Do not turn off the monitor or computer – They must remain on for diagnostic and administrative purposes.

  1. DO NOT download or install software - Installing other programs creates compatibility problems, security issues, and can slow down the computer’s performance.  DO NOT install software.  NEVER click “yes” when a webpage asks to install software.

  1. ALWAYS log off when you are done with your work session.  Failing to log off leaves your account free and open to anyone who walks by your workstation.  LOG OFF!  DO NOT use anyone else’s account except the one you were assigned.

  1. BACKUP your data.  We cannot absolutely guarantee the safety of your data, whether stored on the hard drive of a computer or on your X: (network) drive.  Backup regularly and often!

  1. Try to keep your fingers off the monitor screens. We know you like to touch them, but it makes them dirty and it’s difficult to see through fingerprints.

  1. Turn in lost items to an instructor or tech.Lost items can be placed in Lost and Found by an instructor or lab tech (Edgar, Caesar or Ruben).  Items in the lost and found are thrown away every Friday.

  2. Know your support staff

  3. Don’t wait until the end of the semester to take advantage of the open lab times, use lab time to keep up with your work and to avoid the end-of-the semester rush.

Have a great semester!
