(offered Fall semester)
The course uses GIS and Remote Sensing to make decisions by analyzing, interpreting spatial data in most all fields. One of the leading fields using GIS in making decisions is the environmental field. You might want to trace pollution in a stream, plan a wildlife reserve, or detect a relationship between environmental factors and human health trends, for example. Whatever the case may be, you need to study information about a geographic location to gain a better understanding of that area's environment. Requires prerequisite GIS120.
Tentatively not scheduled until Summer 2011. However, all on campus classes have GPS components including field data collection method. No prerequisites.
GIS 222 Facilities Mapping is currently being re-written. Futhermore, two additional courses will be shortly added including GIS for Health and GIS for Wildland Fire.
AutoCAD (DRAFT 150)
Introduction to CAD is scheduled each semester in mornings & evenings for the working professional. No prerequisites.
Microsoft Access (CIT 109 & 110)
Introduction & Intermediate GIS is offered each semester. No prerequisites.
Register Lab Class
Regardless if you are a student on campus or do not plan to visit the campus (if you are an online student) we request you register the lab class. There is no fee. It simply provides you a login and storage on the server in the event you do plan to visit for whatever reason. The ticket number changes each semester. Spring 2010 CRN (ticket number) is 31673.
(offered every semester)
New to GIS? Learn fundamental GIS concepts, how and where to download local community data to analyze demographics to mapping (geocoding) your customers, incidents or patients. Peform fundamental GIS operations using spatial analysis tools. On campus students use GPS technology to collect new data in the field and transfer to GIS. Course is available entirely online if you cannot come to campus (see here for requirements). No prerequisites.
(offered Spring semester)
Builds upon the spatial analysis principles and concepts of GIS 120. Work with more advanced analytical tools, continuous data and modeling to further develop skills in spatial problem solving. Requires prerequisite GIS120.
(offered every semester)
A hybrid online crime mapping course is offered Spring Semester. The
course is for students interested in public safety and for the
professional crime analyst and investigators needing to learn GIS tool
to perform various assignment including development of basemaps,
geocoding (pin mapping), hot spot & chloropleth mapping, spatial
analysis and layouts including mapbooks. Following faculty prepared
lessons, students are encouraged to use their own agency data for a
final project.
Prerequisite GIS120 and AJ101 will be removed as requirements starting Summer 2010. If registering Spring 2010, please email wroberts@riohondo.edu for course requirement waiver.
(offered Fall semester)
Effectively prepare effective GIS layout and create effective, easy to understand map layouts that meets the need of the audience and the task at hand.
* Course is also available online
**Course is hybrid. There are three required meetings on campus (Spring 2010 scheduled Feb 16-18 9am - 4pm).
