The Associate of Arts Degree in Animation is recommended for those who are interested in the field of Entertainment Art and Animation. The Animation degree prepares students for the entertainment arts through training in traditional and digital methods. Artists from AAA studios guide Rio Hondo’s Animation program and each year students have the opportunity to interact with them through demos, guest speaker spots and critiques. The animation courses foster creativity and innovation and are focused on project based assignments. Using state-of-the-industry software students create portfolios full of engaging characters and the detailed worlds they live in! Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)
- Successful students will be able to develop and communicate a concept design that is original and engaging by using both digital and traditional methods such as quick sketching, perspective drawing and digital sculpture.
- Animating digital character or man-made object successful students will exhibit a knowledge and understanding of the principals of animation.
- Using the latest digital visualization tools and given a concept design describing an environment, character or man-made object, successful students will competently create a project appropriate for a portfolio in the entertainment industry.
NOTE: Students are advised to check with the Counseling Department for the courses accepted into the Animation major at the four-year institutions where they seek transfer.

To acquire the Associate of Arts Degree in Animation, students must complete the graduation requirements of the college along with the following courses, with a grade of “C” or better:
