Keywords are everyday terms used to describe a topic, whereas subject headings are the agreed-upon terms designated by the Library of Congress and assigned to each item in your library’s catalog.

Books on the same subject usually have the same subject heading and similar call number, and so are located around each other in the shelves. Take a trip to the library to see this in action.
