Dear Campus Community,
In light of the White House announcement today to end DACA, we at Rio Hondo College reaffirm our unconditional commitment to immigrant, refugee, and undocumented community members, and those with DACA status. As we stated in our letter to the community on November 16, 2016, we stand strongly in support of our students regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity or national origin. The November letter is available by clicking here and the December 14th Board resolution is available by clicking here. We will be unwavering in our pledge to protect our undocumented students because we are committed to the success of our diverse students and communities.
We have three locations on our main campus to provide information and support, and they are: the First-Year Success Center, located on the 1st floor of the Learning Resource Center; the Counseling Center, located on the 1st floor of the Student Services Building; and the Student Equity Office, located on the 2nd floor of the Administration Building, A-207A. Also, there are counselors available at the three off-site educational centers as well.
We stand with you and will be engaged in advocating tirelessly as stated in California Community College Chancellor Eloy Oakley’s statement. We will continue to provide campus updates as more information becomes available. The California Community College Chancellor’s Office has provided resources for undocumented students, available here.
Rio Hondo College has been, is, and will remain an inclusive space in which all persons are welcomed and invited to engage in constant learning and open dialogue. Our continuous care for students is what motivated us to become leaders in education and advocates for our students.
