After an exciting
first round of the playoffs, Rio Hondo came back with two outs in the 8th
inning Saturday afternoon to beat Citrus College 3-2 and win the best of
three series 2-1.
Now Rio Hondo
will host the Southern California 4 team Super Regional’s this Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
Friday’s home
games will be Rio Hondo (36-3) vs. Southwestern College (24-16) at 11 am.
At 3 pm, Palomar
College (28-11) will play Glendale College (25-14) on the Rio Hondo field.
The tournament is
a double-elimination format.
Saturday the two
Friday losers will play off-site (TBA) at 10 am in game #3.
The two Friday
winners will play at Rio Hondo at 11 am Saturday in game #4 – winner
advances to Sunday. The loser of game #4 and the winner of game #3 will play
at 3 pm Saturday at Rio Hondo in game #5, with the winner advancing to
Sunday.
Sunday’s games
will be at Rio Hondo College at 11 am – and 3 pm if necessary since it is a
double elimination tournament. The winner of the Southern California Super
Regional will advance to the State Championship May 20 - 22 in Bakersfield.
This is a
California Community College Athletic Association playoff series meaning it
follows their state bylaws and admission will be charged to cover playoff
costs. Admission will be $8 a day for adults and $5 a day for students. An
All-tournament admission ticket will be $15. This is a great chance to see
some fantastic baseball and support your team.
