Alcohol/Drugs
Rio Hondo College wants to provide a quality education for you. We believe that creating a learning environment which is free of drug and alcohol abuse is important. The College's standard of conduct clearly prohibits the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs or alcohol by students on campus or as part of any of its activities.
If you violate these policies, you may be subject to corrective action, up to and including suspension or expulsion. It is important to note that the College is prepared to impose disciplinary action as it deems fit. See Board Policy 4540 for more information.
There are services on campus to help those students who may be experiencing problems with drug or alcohol abuse. Services, information or referrals may be obtained at the following offices: Health Office, Psychological Services, and Counseling.

Rules of Student Conduct
The Rio Hondo College campus is an academic community dedicated to teaching and learning. In order that teaching and learning may take place in an atmosphere of respect for one another and for each other's ideas and beliefs, Rio Hondo College has guaranteed certain fundamental rights to its students and faculty.
Rio Hondo College students are part of a community in which ideas will be explored in a mature spirit of understanding and mutual respect. Only in this mature spirit can the College meet its obligations to those it serves.
All applicable state laws relating to student conduct on a community college campus shall be observed by students. Regulations have been adopted providing for free speech, the distribution of literature, and for due process of law for students whose conduct is in conflict with college policies and procedures.
Smoking Policy
There is no smoking allowed inside any building on campus, or within 5' of any major entrance to any building, or in any college owned vehicle.
Student Grievance Procedure
A grievance is an alleged wrongful act by a college staff or faculty member which has an adverse effect upon a student's academic or personal status at Rio Hondo College (Board Policy 4220).
Students who have a grievance against any faculty or staff member may request a hearing by contacting Tom Huffman in Admissions and Records.
Stop by Admissions and Records for information and assistance regarding grievances.
Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment is offensive, unwelcome sexual attention. It may be pressure for dates or sexual favors, suggestive gestures or remarks, touching, or even actual or attempted rape or assault. These behaviors may be intended to gain an advantage by one person over another by requiring submission to the sexual conduct as a condition of academic instruction, employment or participation activity. A person engaging in harassment may be another student, a faculty member or other college employee. The person engaging in the harassment may be of the same or opposite sex.
It is the conduct that is illegal!
Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination which violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, California statues, and Rio Hondo Community College District Board policies.
If you believe that you are a victim of sexual harassment, tell the person responsible for the behavior that you want them to stop; or tell the supervisor of the person about the behavior; or contact the Compliance Coordinator, room S204A, ext. 3478, or from an off-campus telephone, 310/908-3478.
Retaliating against an individual who files a complaint of sexual harassment is another form of discrimination. You should report behavior that constitutes retaliation immediate to the Compliance Coordinator.
