Marco Ayala

Major: Film, Television and Electronic Media

When Río Hondo College student Marco Ayala walks into a room, his energy fills it — part creative spark, part infectious optimism. The first-year Film, Television and Electronic Media major is already building a name for himself as a TikTok influencer, entrepreneur and storyteller whose message is simple: lead with authenticity and joy.

Ayala calls himself “niche-less,” a label that fits his fearless curiosity. “I don’t like boxes or limits,” Ayala said. “I’m a creator of everything.” Whether he’s filming a motivational video, developing a business strategy or experimenting with new creative projects, his work blends art, humor and heartfelt storytelling. That drive for creativity also powers his business, MarcoCookiez — a dessert brand with a mission beyond sweets. For Ayala, baking is an act of healing and connection.

“One of my taglines is, ‘Let’s bake the world a better place,’” Ayala said. “MarcoCookiez started as a way to heal myself, and it’s become a space where others can feel seen, soothed, uplifted and inspired.”

His business features three signature treats: Mini Moments, bite-sized cookies meant to celebrate life’s small joys; Main Characters, large cookies packed with bold flavors and personality; and MarcoBrowniez, the decadent sibling of MarcoCookiez — a rich milk chocolate, thick chewy fudge brownie loaded with chocolate chips. Each product reflects his mission to spread comfort and creativity through every bite.

That same philosophy extends to his content on TikTok, where Ayala’s videos mix motivation, vulnerability and humor. His storytelling encourages others to embrace their individuality and chase their passions unapologetically.

“If I can inspire even one person to start — whether that’s a business, a dream or just healing — that means everything to me,” he said.

Ayala’s journey to Río Hondo is deeply personal. Building on the path started by his mother, sisters, cousins and other family members — all proud alumni — Ayala said the College immediately felt like home. “It’s safe, supportive, where I get to grow, create and be myself, carrying forward everything they began,” he said. Through the Guardian Scholars, NextUp and Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, Ayala found not just resources but a network of people who believe in him. Those connections led to some of his favorite college moments, including participating in a campus marketing photoshoot with the Public Information, Marketing and Communications Department — an experience that reminded him how far he’s come.

Ayala’s path hasn’t been traditional. After leaving high school and earning his GED, he decided to continue his education at Río Hondo College, where he pursued storytelling and communication — discovering a passion for public speaking along the way. His first speech class at Río Hondo earned him an A and, more importantly, a new level of confidence.

“I don’t see challenges as negatives,” he said. “Everything happens for a reason — it’s all about what you learn from it.”

When it comes to what’s next, Ayala is keeping his options open. “I’m the type of soul to go with the flow and follow my soul alignment,” he said. He’s currently working to complete his associate degree and will more than likely transfer. “At the moment, I don’t have a place in mind, but when the time comes, I trust my intuition will make the right choice.”

Now, as he balances classes, content creation and entrepreneurship, Ayala hopes to inspire others to do the same. His advice to new students reflects the mantra he lives by:

“Shine through your authenticity,” he said. “Even if you feel like you don’t fit in a room, the right room will appear for you. Don’t be scared of the unknown — make the unknown scared of you.”

Through his creativity, resilience and unshakable optimism, Marco Ayala embodies the spirit of Río Hondo College — a place that welcomes every student to rise above challenges and see the world with a new perspective. “That view from the campus reminds me why I’m here: to climb higher, grow and give back.”
