Rio Hondo’s Homeland Security Program prepares students who are interested in criminal justice focusing on terrorism and disaster relief. Professions in Homeland Security target in preventing terrorism and enhancing U.S. security. Students will learn how to enforce and administer U.S. laws. Skills developed during class will enhance the student’s ability by completing industry-recognized third-party Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) certification courses as part of each class in the core program. Rio Hondo provides four programs of study in Homeland Security. An Associates Degree can be obtained with either an Emphasis in Fire Technology or Emphasis in Administration of Justice. Two high unit certificates are offered– Homeland Security COA and Homeland Security: Planning and Administration COA.

For officers and civilians already serving in public safety careers, a certificate or degree can enhance your skill set with embedded FEMA Independent Study courses required for each homeland security class.
The program can also serve as a basis for re-skilling people looking for new career opportunities.
