Which Math Course Should I Take?

All students can enroll directly into their 100-level transfer math or quantitative reasoning course, although some students will be required to also take a corequisite support “E” course.

The courses titled Math 13E, 15E, 16E, 17E, and 18E are 1-unit support courses designed to pair with a transfer level course. For example, Math 13E supports Math 130: Statistics. During class, the instructor will review needed math topics, and also cover helpful study skills.

Students below a certain GPA cutoff will be required to take an “E” course, but all students may choose to enroll in the extra support. See a counselor for details on when an “E” course is required.

If you are planning to transfer, you can start directly in a 100-level math or quantitative reasoning class that aligns to your major to finish in one semester for most degrees. The 100-level course will satisfy both your AA/AS and transfer requirements.

If you are not planning to transfer, you can take:

• Math 62: PreStatistics;
• Math 70: Intermediate Algebra; or
• Math 60: Geometry

With the help of a counselor, you can choose the best option for you. Please note that Fin 101 and Math 175: Trigonometry do not transfer to the UC system.

Math 150 is a quantitative reasoning course that satisfies the GE requirement for both the UCs and CSUs. It is intended for students in majors in the Arts, Communication and Languages, or CTE Areas of Interest. It covers topics in math that people use every day. Topics include buying versus leasing a car and reading graphs you might see in the news.
