Biography

Anais is a first generation Latina, mother, and communications professional who was raised in El Monte and South El Monte. She attended local schools, met her husband, David Diaz, and built her family here. Anais attended Río Hondo Community College before earning her BA in Communications from the University of La Verne in 2010. In 2018, she earned her Masters of Strategic Public Relations from the University of Southern California, along with a Certificate in Public Policy Advocacy. She was first elected to the Río Hondo College Board of Trustees in 2021 and re-elected in 2022 to represent Trustee Area 1, El Monte.

During her time on the Board, Anais has advocated for resources that support students’ basic needs, expanded career pathways and opportunities, and pushed for policies that keep equity and access at the center of the college’s work. She supported Measure RH, which is helping transform campus facilities with more accessible, sustainable, and student-centered spaces. She has also supported the significant expansion of dual enrollment and the transformation of the El Monte Education Center into a hub where local high school students can earn college credit while receiving educational support. Anais believes community colleges should provide affordable, quality education and meaningful career pathways for both traditional and nontraditional students.

Anais is also the Director of Communications for the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, where she leads communications and public education efforts for a public health agency serving nearly two million residents. Her work focuses on making public health information accessible, building strong community partnerships, and helping residents understand and respond to mosquito-borne disease threats. She has worked closely with schools, community organizations, elected officials, and public health partners and has helped lead communications during emerging public health challenges.

Anais knows firsthand how education and opportunity can change a family’s future. Her parents immigrated to the United States, and she credits access to higher education and her father’s union job with helping create the opportunities she has today. That experience continues to shape her approach to public service: listen to the community, be transparent and accountable, and make sure resources and opportunities reach the people who need them most. She is committed to continuing that work for El Monte students, families, and the broader Río Hondo community.
