Course Names are Changing Fall 2025: Common Course Numbering (CNN) System

Talk to a Counselor

Posted on April 25, 2025 by Río Hondo College | Category: College News,Homepage News

Did you know that beginning Fall 2025, course numbers at California Community Colleges—including Río Hondo—will start to look the same across the state? It’s all part of a new system called Common Course Numbering (CCN).

This new system, required by state law (Assembly Bill 1111), is designed to make it easier for students to transfer between colleges. Instead of trying to figure out if “Math 130” at one college is the same as “Math 110” at another, all similar classes will now have the same course number and title—making things simpler and clearer.

What’s changing?

Starting Fall 2025, some courses at Río Hondo will have new numbers and names. For example, “Math 130” might now appear as STAT C1000. But don’t worry, it’s the same class, just with a new label.

How does this help students?

If you ever need to take a class at another community college or plan to transfer, you’ll know exactly what to register for. This change helps you build a clearer academic plan, understand how your courses transfer, and stay on track to graduate.

Already took the class?

No problem. Past coursework remains valid. These changes won’t affect what you’ve already completed.

More changes ahead

This is just Phase I. More classes will go through the CCN system in Fall 2026 and again in Fall 2027.

Have questions? Talk to a counselor, they’re here to help you navigate the updates.
