Rio Hondo College celebrated the unveiling of its newest public art installation, “River of Knowledge,” a vibrant 50-by-20-foot mural created by local artist Ian Robertson-Salt, a South Pasadena High School graduate and Pasadena resident. The piece, showcased in the foyer of the College Library, illustrates the Rio Hondo River, student models immersed in the water, and symbolic references to literature, local history, and native flora and fauna. Featured books include works by James Baldwin and Margaret Atwood, along with an article by Robertson-Salt’s brother-in-law on the Rio Hondo landmark Marrano Beach.
During the Sept. 11 dedication ceremony, college leaders — including Dean George Wheeler, Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss, Vice President of the Board of Trustees Rosaelva Lomeli, and Dr. Cynthia Lewis — honored the artist’s thoughtful attention to natural light and his longstanding commitment to public art.
