Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for the GO RIO program?
In order to qualify for GO RIO a student must:
1) Fill out an online survey on the Access Rio Portal only for first time GO RIO users.
2) Be enrolled with 9 or more units;
3) Sign a form promising to maintain the unit load for the entire semester;
4) Pay a one-time, opt-in fee for $50 at the Cashier’s Office.

After following each of the above four steps, students will receive a “U-Pass” sticker that will be affixed to the Photo ID and serve as the current semesters bus pass.

How much is the GO RIO transit fee?
Free to all registered students which is only in effect during the Fall 2021 semester.

Where can I pick up a “U-Pass” Sticker?
U-Pass Stickers are available at the Admissions and Records Photo ID window located just outside of SS-120. In Fall 2021, students must make an appointment before dropping by the A & R Photo ID window and paying the fee at the Cashier’s Office.

What bus companies/transit agencies honor the GO RIO pass?
GO RIO U-Passes can be used on El Monte Transit, Foothill Transit, L.A. County Public Works’ Sunshine Shuttle, Metro, Montebello Bus Lines, and Norwalk Transit.

Can I use the GO RIO U-Pass at any time or is it only valid for travel to and from Rio Hondo College?
The GO RIO U-Pass is valid any time during regular operating hours (including weekends) and can be used for any travel needs such as school, work and leisure.

I had to drop a class and I’m now below 12 units, what should I do?
If students drop below their original unit total at any time during the semester, the GO RIO pass will automatically be deactivated from the Photo ID. If the GO RIO pass is deactivated, students should retain the GO RIO U-Pass because it can still be used at a later time if students qualify for the GO RIO program again at a later time.

I lost my GO RIO U-Pass sticker. How can I obtain a new one?
Students who lost a GO RIO U-Pass sticker can request a new sticker at Photo ID Window for a $10.00 replacement fee (at least 9 or more units).
