(Whittier, Calif.) — Río Hondo Community College District Board of Trustees President Oscar Valladares has been elected vice chair of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Board of Directors for 2025-26.
Valladares, who served as ACCT’s secretary-treasurer in 2024-25, was elected during the associations recent leadership elections. The ACCT represents more than 6,500 trustees who govern more than 1,200 community, technical and junior colleges nationwide.
“I am honored to serve as vice chair of ACCT,” said Valladares. “As someone who came through the community college system myself, I understand firsthand the vital role these institutions play in expanding access, increasing completion and supporting student success. I look forward to continuing to champion efforts that strengthen and elevate our community college system.”
Valladares has served on the Río Hondo College Board of Trustees since 2018 and currently represents Area 5, which includes East Whittier. His leadership at the local and national levels has focused on improving student opportunities and strengthening community partnerships.
“Trustee Valladares’ election as vice chair reflects his continued commitment to community college students and the mission of higher education,” said Río Hondo College President Teresa Dreyfuss. “We are proud to see him represent Río Hondo College and the state of California on a national platform.”
The ACCT is a national nonprofit organization that promotes effective governance and leadership among community college boards and advocates for equitable access to higher education.
