Río Hondo College Hosts “Discover Río” to Help Students Start Their College Journey

(Whittier, Calif.) — Río Hondo College invites prospective students and their families to attend Discover Río: Your College Journey Starts Now events. These FREE enrollment events take place Friday, July 18 and Friday, July 25 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Learning Resource Center on the College’s main campus.
Events are open to all and will provide a one-stop opportunity for attendees to:
“Discover Río is designed to empower students and families with clear information, supportive guidance and access to resources,” said Cecilia Rocha, dean of Student Equity and Achievement. “It’s the ideal launch pad for students ready to take the next step toward their future.”
Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss also emphasized the College’s commitment to accessibility and student success.
“We are always pleased to welcome the community to the Río Hondo College campus,” Dreyfuss said. “Our College is a place of learning, growth and opportunity—open to all who want to explore what’s possible and take advantage of the resources we offer.”
Río Hondo College offers 69 associate degrees, two bachelor’s degrees in Automotive Technology and Electronic Digital Instrument, and 35 Associate Degrees for Transfer, all aligned with the region’s workforce demands in fields such as healthcare, public safety, business, education and engineering.
The College is also home to a robust array of first responder programs, including nursing, police and fire academies, and emergency medical technician (EMT) training. These programs are instrumental in preparing skilled professionals to meet urgent staffing needs across Southern California.
A significant portion of students receive financial support—10,377 students received financial aid during the 2023–24 academic year, according to the College’s Fast Facts report, underscoring Río Hondo’s commitment to access and affordability.
