What if I Am on Academic Notice?

Students who do not achieve a GPA of at least 2.0 and/or do not complete at least 50% of their courses will be placed on academic and/or progress notice. The first semester students will receive a warning and will be directed to resources to help get them back on track. However, students who remain on notice for more than 1 semester will lose registration priority and California College Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG waiver). Students are notified of their academic notice status through their Rio Hondo College email at the end of each Fall and Spring semester.

First Academic Notice

If this is your first time on academic notice, you are strongly encourage to complete an Academic/Progress Notice Workshop or meet with a Counselor. Doing so will help you better understand your probation status and learn about student support services.

Final Academic Notice

Students who remain on academic notice for two semesters will no longer be eligible for priority registration or California College Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG waiver). They have one final semester to improve before being academically paused. In order to have their priority enrollment registration date granted, students are required to complete an Academic Notice Workshop. Workshops are available in person or on-line, or you can choose to meet with a Counselor in person. Please call the Counseling Center at (562) 908-3410 to schedule an appointment. Registration dates will be granted within 48 hours of completing the on-line workshops, in person working, or after meeting with a Counselor.

Students can appeal to keep their Enrollment Priority (registration appointment) and/or California College Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG waiver).

Pause

Students who remain on academic notice for more than two semesters are required to sit out one semester (excluding summer session). This can be appealed by meeting with a Counselor and completing an Academic Restart Petition prior to the start of the following semester. Please call the Counseling Center at (562) 908-3410 to schedule an appointment. Students can appeal to regain their California College Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG waiver).
